Kiwi Postpaid expands credit access through UPI
By Milan Rojan
Indian Credit-on-UPI platform Kiwi has reported strong early adoption of its Kiwi Postpaid product, with nearly half of users having no previous access to credit cards during the first 30 days following its launch.
The product, offered in partnership with YES BANK, has provided users with credit lines of up to $524 (₹50,000) through the Kiwi app for everyday UPI payments. The company has said the early uptake has highlighted demand among consumers who have traditionally faced barriers to accessing credit cards.
Self-employed professionals have accounted for one-third of Kiwi Postpaid users, while 50% have come from Tier II and Tier III cities. Nearly 30% of users have been from Gen Z, indicating adoption among younger consumers and customers outside major metropolitan areas.
Siddharth Mehta, Co-Founder & COO of Kiwi, has said: “The early adoption of Kiwi Postpaid shows that Credit Line on UPI can bridge this gap. We are seeing first-time credit card users, self-employed professionals and consumers from Tier II and III cities use Kiwi Postpaid for everyday spends.”
The company has reported that users have primarily used the product for routine UPI transactions rather than high-value discretionary purchases. Nearly 95% of eligible applicants have also been approved for a credit line within two hours, according to Kiwi.
Anil Singh, Country Head, Credit Cards & Merchant Acquiring, YES BANK, has said the partnership has helped extend UPI credit to new-to-credit users and customers outside Tier I cities.
Kiwi has positioned the product as a way to provide regulated credit through an existing UPI payment experience while helping users build their credit profiles through timely repayments.
The development has highlighted the growing use of UPI as a channel for expanding digital credit access in India, particularly among consumers who have remained underserved by conventional credit card offerings.
