Circle to acquire cross-border payments firm Tazapay
By Divya Shah
Circle Internet Group, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, has signed an agreement to acquire Singapore-headquartered cross-border payments infrastructure provider Tazapay.
The transaction is expected to close in 2027, subject to customary regulatory approvals, including clearance from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
The acquisition is aimed at strengthening Circle’s global payments infrastructure and advancing its ambition to build a digital-finance network powered by stablecoins.
Founded in Singapore, Tazapay provides cross-border payment infrastructure for payment service providers and financial institutions. The company processes more than $25bn in annualised payment volume through a network of over 60 banking and fintech partners, while offering local payout capabilities across more than 100 markets.
Rahul Shinghal, co-founder and CEO of Tazapay, said, “We built Tazapay to make payments faster, remove friction, and reduce reliance on traditional banking rails that do not operate at the speed of global commerce. Circle’s USDC infrastructure and regulatory standing create an opportunity to scale what we have built and deliver greater value to customers.”
Tazapay’s infrastructure will enhance its ability to originate and settle payments globally on a near-instant, 24/7 basis. The company added that roughly 60% of Tazapay’s transaction volume already involves stablecoins, highlighting growing demand for digital asset-based payments.
Irfan Ganchi, Senior Vice President of Payments at Circle, said, “Tazapay brings deep payment infrastructure across APAC and emerging markets, where demand for USDC-denominated transactions continues to grow. The acquisition strengthens our capability to move money globally, near-instantly and around the clock, bringing us closer to making USDC a preferred payment rail for cross-border commerce.”
Circle said existing Tazapay customers will continue to receive uninterrupted services, with no changes planned to APIs, pricing, support, or operating processes following the transaction.
