Why it matters: The appointment highlights the increasing importance of Asia-Pacific as a growth market for financial technology and capital markets infrastructure. As banks, exchanges and financial institutions accelerate digital transformation programmes, demand for advanced trading, post-trade, treasury and banking technology solutions continues to rise.

Nasdaq has appointed Andrew Murray as Senior Vice President of Financial Technology for the Asia-Pacific region to deepen client partnerships and accelerate growth across the region.

Based in Singapore, Murray will work closely with financial institutions across Asia-Pacific, supporting their technology modernisation and transformation initiatives while expanding Nasdaq’s Financial Technology business.

The appointment follows the relocation of Bob McCooey, Vice Chairman and Head of International Listings at Nasdaq, to Singapore. The move is intended to strengthen Nasdaq’s engagement with regional companies and support their access to global capital markets.

Valerie Bannert-Thurner, Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer, Financial Technology at Nasdaq, said, “Andrew’s strong track record of helping financial institutions solve complex technology challenges will be invaluable as our clients navigate this rapidly changing landscape. Alongside Bob and our teams across the region, we are committed to being a trusted, long-term partner to Asia-Pacific’s market ecosystems.”

Murray brings more than 30 years of experience in financial technology, treasury, trading, corporate banking and capital markets. Most recently, he held a leadership role in International Banking and Payments at FIS, supporting clients across banking and payments operations.

His career also includes senior leadership positions at FIS in Banking & Markets and Post-Trade Solutions, as well as previous roles at Calypso Technology, SunGard, Wall Street Systems and Deutsche Bank.

Bob McCooey said, “Asia-Pacific’s ambition is reshaping the global economy, and the region’s companies and investors increasingly seek access to deep, global pools of capital to fuel that growth. Strengthening our presence on the ground will allow us to work more closely with the region’s companies, investors and market participants, and deepen our role as a long-term partner across Asia-Pacific.”

McCooey’s move to Singapore highlights Nasdaq’s continued investment in Asia-Pacific, where it aims to work more closely with companies, investors, exchanges and market participants. With over two decades at Nasdaq, he has advised many of the region’s high-growth companies on their journeys to international capital markets.

Nasdaq said basing additional senior leaders in Singapore reflects its long-term commitment to the region as markets become increasingly interconnected, digital and technology-driven.
