InterVest Capital Partners has acquired small business financing provider Kapitus, strengthening the lender’s capital base and supporting its expansion across the US small and medium-sized business (SMB) financing market.

Andrew Reiser, Chief Executive Officer of Kapitus, said: “With capital and strategic support from InterVest, Kapitus is better positioned to meet the growing demand for small business financing.”

Founded in 2006, Kapitus has provided more than $10 billion in funding to over 65,000 small businesses through products including term loans, revenue-based financing, equipment finance, Small Business Administration (SBA) loans and revolving lines of credit, delivered directly and through its financing network.

Steven Tenenbayev, Chief Investment Officer of InterVest Capital Partners, said: “We see Kapitus as a premier small business lending platform in the US and are excited to partner with the Kapitus team to expand access to capital for SMBs nationwide.”

InterVest, a New York-based alternative investment manager specialising in niche credit, asset-based lending and specialty finance, said the acquisition has expanded its presence in the commercial lending sector. The firm already operates a portfolio of commercial and consumer specialty finance businesses serving SMBs across multiple industries.

Under the new ownership, Kapitus has gained access to additional growth capital, commercial finance expertise and InterVest’s network of portfolio companies. The companies said the partnership has been designed to accelerate Kapitus’ expansion while broadening access to financing for small businesses nationwide.

Kapitus will continue to operate independently under its existing management team and will maintain its focus on providing financing solutions tailored to the needs of small businesses.

The transaction was supported by several financial and legal advisers. Guggenheim Securities acted as financial adviser to the seller, while Stephens Inc. and Truist Securities advised the purchaser.
