Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce introduces Apple Pay and Google Pay
By Divya Shah
Why does it matter: The addition of Apple Pay and Google Pay to government service platforms highlights the growing role of digital wallets in public-sector payments. For FinTechs, it signals increasing demand for seamless, mobile-first payment experiences and creates opportunities for payment providers, digital wallet operators and infrastructure firms supporting government digitalisation initiatives.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) in Qatar introduced Apple Pay and Google Pay as payment options for service fees across its digital platforms and mobile application.
The Ministry said the new payment methods were designed to make payments faster and more convenient for users accessing its services online.
With the rollout, customers can now use Apple Pay and Google Pay across the Ministry’s electronic platforms and mobile app when completing transactions, providing greater flexibility in the payment process.
According to the Ministry, the initiative forms part of its efforts to simplify payment procedures and improve the accessibility of its digital services.
The move aligns with the broader adoption of digital payment technologies across government services, helping users complete transactions more efficiently while supporting the country’s digital transformation objectives.
