Avalara unveils agentic AI tools to simplify global tax compliance
By Divya Shah
Why does it matter: Avalara’s push into agentic AI highlights a broader shift toward intelligent automation in regulatory technology (RegTech).
Avalara has introduced a suite of agentic AI-powered tax and compliance solutions at its CRUSH Europe customer conference, aiming to help businesses manage increasingly complex regulatory requirements while accelerating international growth.
The company demonstrated how automation and agentic AI can reduce manual work across tax and compliance functions as governments move toward more digital, interconnected and real-time reporting frameworks.
Nataliya Schipka, Director of Finance at Fortnum & Mason, said, “When delivering across multiple countries and some unique destinations, accurate tax and duty calculations are essential. Automating cross-border compliance allows us to focus on serving customers wherever they are, rather than being constrained by the complexity of compliance.”
The company also introduced Avalara Aviator, the new agent hub for tax and compliance, which is now generally available. The platform is designed to automate repetitive operational tasks while maintaining oversight and auditability.
According to Avalara, Aviator’s intelligent agents can understand context, coordinate workflows, monitor variances and execute actions automatically, while escalating decisions to humans when approval or judgement is required.
The platform can perform tasks such as mapping products to tax codes, validating exemption certificates, generating tax matrices, configuring compliance rules and analysing results across different applications. Avalara said the solution is built on its proprietary compliance data, tax content and governance framework developed over more than two decades.
The company also highlighted Versori by Avalara, an agentic integration platform designed to connect tax and compliance intelligence with enterprise systems including ERP platforms, e-commerce applications and finance systems.
Avalara said Versori uses specialised AI agents to research, develop, test and deploy production-grade integrations in days rather than months, reducing implementation costs and accelerating deployment timelines.
Hugo Sarrazin, Chief Executive Officer of Avalara, said, “AI is changing how work gets done across every industry. But agentic AI is different. It can execute multi-step work, continuously monitor what is changing, and bring people in when judgement or approval is required. The opportunity is automation and control, not one at the expense of the other. In tax, the calculation still has to be right. The filing still has to be defensible. And the person accountable is still a person.”
To address these changes, the company said businesses can integrate once through a single global API and then activate individual country-specific compliance mandates through configuration, reducing the need for repeated technology implementations.
