The Big Story
India’s FinTech sector has reached profitability for the first time, according to a recent study, which highlighted improving business fundamentals and more realistic valuations across the industry.
The report has estimated that the Indian FinTech sector has generated a net profit of approximately $267 million, while revenues have surpassed $11.6 billion. The report has noted that the sector’s valuation landscape has become more grounded, with the overall FinTech ecosystem valued at more than $100 billion.
According to the report, WealthTech companies have emerged as the leading contributors to profitability within the sector, benefiting from increasing adoption of digital investment platforms and growing participation from retail investors. Meanwhile, payments companies have continued to account for a significant share of FinTech revenues, supported by India’s expanding digital payments ecosystem.
The findings have reflected a shift in investor sentiment towards FinTech companies, following a period of rapid expansion driven by funding availability and high-growth expectations. The study has suggested that investors are now placing greater emphasis on sustainable revenue models, operational efficiency and profitability rather than growth alone.
India’s FinTech industry has expanded significantly over the past decade, supported by developments in digital public infrastructure, including real-time payments, digital identity systems and broader financial inclusion initiatives. The sector has attracted investments across areas such as digital payments, lending, wealth management, insurance technology and embedded finance.

Brookfield has completed the first close of Brookfield Middle East Partners (BMEP), raising approximately $2 billion for a private equity fund anchored by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) to invest in businesses across Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East.
The fund has secured commitments from PIF alongside other global and regional institutional investors. It has been established to pursue buyouts, minority growth equity investments and other private equity opportunities across sectors including financial services, business services, consumer services, industrials, technology and healthcare.
Brookfield said the capital has been earmarked for investments across the Middle East, with a focus on high-growth Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets. Around 50% of the fund’s investments have been targeted for Saudi Arabia, supporting the kingdom’s efforts to attract international capital and strengthen its financial markets.
PIF has participated as an anchor investor as part of its strategy to expand global partnerships, diversify the Saudi capital market and broaden financing options for businesses. Brookfield has committed $500 million to the fund alongside its investment partners. The firm said it will also introduce the Brookfield Academy in Saudi Arabia to provide professional development and learning opportunities for industry participants. Brookfield has invested in the Middle East since 2015 and currently manages more than $16 billion in regional assets spanning private equity, real estate and infrastructure.
