Alipay+ widens QR payment access across Argentina
By Milan Rojan
Ant International has expanded the reach of its Alipay+ cross-border payment platform by connecting Argentina’s national QR payment scheme, Transferencias 3.0, through a partnership with Latin American FinTech PVS. The integration has enabled international travellers using supported Alipay+ partner wallets to make QR code payments at millions of merchants across Argentina.
Lucio Colunga, CEO of PVS, said: “Through our partnership with Alipay+, we are giving merchants across Latin America access to one of the world’s largest digital payment ecosystems, connecting them with more than two billion user accounts worldwide.”
The rollout has allowed travellers to pay at restaurants, retail outlets and tourist attractions by scanning the same interoperable QR codes used by local consumers. Merchants have continued using their existing QR acceptance infrastructure, eliminating the need for additional hardware or payment systems.
The integration has connected Argentina’s national QR payment infrastructure with Alipay+, which links more than 150 million merchants to over 50 digital wallets and banking applications, representing around two billion user accounts globally. Supported partner payment apps will be enabled in phases.
Weixiao Jiang, General Manager for North Asia and the Americas at Alipay+, Ant International, said: “By connecting travellers from key international markets with a broad network of merchants, we hope to help boost inbound visitor spending, supporting the country’s tourism economy while bringing more opportunities for local businesses.”
Argentina’s Transferencias 3.0, developed by the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic, has created an interoperable instant payment network that allows consumers to pay using any participating banking or digital wallet application through a single QR code.
The latest deployment has followed Alipay+’s earlier expansion in Argentina and Chile, supporting Ant International’s wider strategy to strengthen cross-border digital payments and merchant acceptance across Latin America.
