Woori Bank expands Samsung Wallet Money with Daiso, CU
By Milan Rojan
Woori Bank has expanded the offline reach of its Samsung Wallet Money & Points service through new partnerships with Daiso and CU, strengthening the digital wallet’s position as a lifestyle payments platform in South Korea.
Kim Dong-jin, Head of Platform Business at Woori Bank, said: “As Daiso and CU are representative retail channels close to customers’ daily lives, this partnership will be an important opportunity to enhance the service competitiveness of Samsung Wallet Money. We will continue to improve the convenience of using Samsung Wallet Money by expanding strategic merchants and offering differentiated benefits.”
The bank has signed separate partnership agreements with Asung Daiso, one of the country’s largest household goods retailers, and BGF Retail, operator of more than 18,000 CU convenience stores, enabling customers to use Samsung Wallet Money for offline payments across both retail networks.
Launched in collaboration with Samsung Electronics, Samsung Wallet Money & Points has enabled users to top up balances, transfer funds and make payments through the Samsung Wallet application. The service has attracted more than 2.5 million subscribers in approximately seven months since its launch, reflecting growing adoption of digital payment solutions in the market.
The latest partnerships have been designed to expand offline payment acceptance and strengthen the service’s presence in high-frequency retail environments, where customers regularly make low-value everyday purchases.
Woori Bank has also outlined plans to broaden its merchant ecosystem by partnering with businesses across additional sectors, including food and beverage, beauty, culture and entertainment, as it seeks to position Samsung Wallet Money as a broader lifestyle financial platform.
The expansion has reflected the increasing focus among financial institutions on embedding payment services into consumers’ everyday spending habits through strategic retail partnerships. By extending acceptance across major offline merchants, Woori Bank has aimed to improve customer convenience while supporting wider adoption of digital wallet-based payments in South Korea.
