Latin America-based FinTech infrastructure provider Prometeo has introduced Name Match, an ownership-evaluation feature integrated into its U.S. Bank Account Verification API, aiming to strengthen pre-payment checks and reduce errors in account-based transfers.

Name Match matches a payee’s submitted name with the name on record for the destination account, returning outcomes such as Match, Partial Match, No Match or No Data. The capability draws on verified banking-network data and is designed to support risk checks within existing payment decisioning systems.

With U.S. payment volumes rising—ACH transfers reached $23.2 trillion in the third quarter of 2025—and fraud attempts reported by 79% of organisations last year, financial institutions are increasing their focus on ownership validation to avoid misdirected payments, ACH returns, and operational losses.

“Verifying that an account exists is no longer enough,” said Ximena Aleman, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Prometeo. “Financial institutions also need confidence in who likely owns the account. Name Match brings that clarity without adding friction for high-volume payment operations.”

The launch aligns with guidelines from Nacha, which has encouraged account-validation checks and pre-payment due diligence for ACH transactions. Businesses can use Name Match to route partial matches for review or block transactions when no match is returned, and to automate decisions such as onboarding, vendor payouts or treasury disbursements.

Prometeo positions the capability as a scalable alternative to login-based verification tools, which are often unsuitable for batch processing, by enabling account-owner evaluation via API inputs rather than user logins.

“Enterprises need infrastructure that works behind the scenes at scale,” said Rodrigo Tumaian, Co-Founder and Co-CEO. “Name Match helps them verify thousands of accounts without requiring interactive login steps or disrupting operations.”

Prometeo launched its U.S. verification API in 2024 to give businesses a single integration across U.S. and Latin American banking networks. The addition of Name Match expands its push into ownership-aware payment infrastructure for payout, onboarding and treasury workflows.
