PayPal has expanded its global payments capabilities through a partnership with PPRO, adding more than 30 local payment methods to its platform to help merchants improve cross-border ecommerce experiences.

The expansion has introduced a range of locally preferred payment options, including Swish in Sweden, MB WAY in Portugal, BLIK Pay Later in Poland and Pix in Brazil. The move was designed to enable merchants to offer familiar payment experiences to international customers while supporting conversion and customer satisfaction.

Samba Natarajan, SVP and General Manager for Europe at PayPal, said: “The European international ecommerce market has reached nearly $409.5 billion creating significant growth opportunities for all businesses looking to expand beyond their home countries. However, even when consumers shop globally, they want to pay with the payment methods they know and trust at home.”

According to PayPal, the growing scale of international e-commerce has created new opportunities for businesses seeking to expand beyond their domestic markets. However, payment preferences have continued to vary significantly across regions, making local payment acceptance an important factor in reducing checkout friction.

PPRO’s payment infrastructure has enabled access to local payment methods across multiple markets through a single integration. The company said the latest expansion had strengthened merchants’ ability to serve customers globally while maintaining localised checkout experiences.

Motie Bring, CEO of PPRO, said: “Our collaboration with PayPal is built on a shared mission to make local payments more accessible for global commerce. By integrating more than 30 new local payment methods into PayPal’s platform, we are connecting global merchants with more shoppers around the world.”

The expanded offering includes support for bank transfers, digital wallets and cash-based payment methods across various markets. By combining PayPal’s global payments network with PPRO’s local payment infrastructure, the companies have aimed to help merchants broaden international reach while offering consumers greater payment choice.
