Tribe Payments announced it had been chosen by payment platform OnerWay, part of the Ronghan Group, to provide acquirer processing services, including its proprietary 3D Secure product. Tribe will process Mastercard and Visa payments in the UK and EEA for OnerWay’s cross-border e-commerce merchants as part of OnerWay’s growth plans to build a holistic and progressive payment ecosystem.

OnerWay, a UK EMI license regulated by the FCA, is a specialist cross-border payment provider and acquirer connecting merchants with international consumers. The company needed an acquirer processing solution with multi-currency BIN support that could be deployed at speed to fuel its rapid global expansion.

One of the key factors for us is the speed to market and that was an important deciding factor for OnerWay,” Tristen Hinds, Tribe’s Head of Partnerships, explained to IBS Intelligence. “We have modular technology so we are very agile and we rolled out a full acquiring solution for them in under three months.”

“Obviously at the time we did look at a range of different competitors, but a lot of them required very long timeframes to complete the project, from nine months to a year,” Kyle Paisley, Global Partnerships Manager at Ronghan, explained. “We are pretty satisfied about the fast implementation time with Tribe and we are very happy to go live with a full end-to-end solution.”

Tribe’s core platform, ISAAC, will process cross-border, omnichannel payments for OnerWay with multi-currency BIN support and was implemented in less than three months from contract signing. Tribe’s proprietary 3D Secure product will authenticate all processed payments, with acquirers’ additional controls and customisation options. Using the TribeHub dashboard, OnerWay will receive instant notifications, view live transactions, and interrogate real-time data analytics to gain customer insights and actionable intelligence.

“I think that the customer journey has to be seamless so we make sure to have that compliance you need  to be a seamless part of that process. The customer journey, from the front to the back, just has to be really smooth it. And we facilitate that,” Hinds added.

“We recognized quite early on that Open Banking is at the heart of payments now and that it is what will help to empower that kind of next stage of embedded finance and all the kind of immediacy and convenience that consumers are looking for now,” Helen Owen, Tribe’s Head of Marketing explained to IBSi. “But also, there’s massive advantages not just for consumers but for businesses of all types in Open Banking.”

The partnership is a key part of OnerWay’s plans to build an unrivalled cross-border payment services proposition based on its principal members of the major international payment schemes, including its recent Mastercard acquiring membership in the UK.

Alex Reddish, Managing Director at Tribe Payments, said: “OnerWay needed an acquirer processing solution that could be implemented at speed to support its expansion across the UK and Europe. Our API-driven approach to payments technology meant we were uniquely placed to help OnerWay access a wealth of functionality and innovative technology in just two months. Furthermore, as OnerWay seeks to expand the range of services it offers, it will be able to take advantage of our modular platform to add, remove and customise new payment products and capabilities at speed without compromising scale or resilience.”
