Why it Matters: As regulators encourage FinTech innovation, digital finance platforms are becoming increasingly important in expanding access to credit, particularly for underserved businesses. MIDBANK’s move also highlights the convergence of traditional banking and digital finance as institutions seek new ways to deliver faster, more accessible financing solutions.

MIDBANK has received approval from Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) to establish MIDBANK Digital Finance for Small and Medium Enterprises, a step in the bank’s strategy to expand its digital financial services and strengthen support for the country’s SME sector.

The new company will focus on developing digital financing solutions tailored to the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises, a segment that continues to play an important role in Egypt’s economic growth and financial inclusion agenda.

The launch comes amid accelerating digital transformation across Egypt’s financial services sector, where institutions are increasingly leveraging technology to improve access to financing and streamline customer experiences.

The initiative also aligns with the FRA’s broader efforts to promote the adoption of financial technology in non-banking financial activities and expand access to innovative financial services. By encouraging digital models, regulators aim to enhance financial inclusion while improving the efficiency and accessibility of financing solutions for businesses and consumers.

MIDBANK said the move forms part of its wider strategy to modernise banking operations through investments in technology infrastructure and the expansion of digital services for both retail and business customers. These efforts are intended to simplify banking processes, improve service delivery and enhance customer experiences.

The bank has been actively strengthening its digital capabilities as it seeks to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving financial landscape and support long-term growth opportunities.

The establishment of MIDBANK Digital Finance is expected to further expand access to financing for SMEs by providing technology-driven solutions tailored to the sector’s needs. The bank said additional details regarding the company’s products, services and operating model will be announced at a later stage.
