Mastercard and Gift of the Givers Foundation partner to assist communities through Priceless Cause
By Pavithra R
Mastercard has announced Priceless Cause that enables consumers to be a force for good, make a difference, and give back to those who need it most amidst the pandemic.
With the need to support South African communities increasing daily due to the pandemic, Mastercard acknowledges the need for organisations to take a stand and extend a helping hand. For this, each time a Mastercard cardholder ‘Taps to Pay’ with their Mastercard contactless card or ‘Scans to Pay’ with their Masterpass app or any other Masterpass-enabled Scan to Pay banking app when they pay at the till point at any Shoprite, USave or Checkers stores, the firm will donate to Gift of the Givers Foundation.
Through the collaboration and Mastercard’s contribution of up to R1million, Gift of the Givers Foundation will provide relief to families and communities that have been adversely affected by COVID-19. The Foundation is dedicated to contributing towards the transformation of communities, making available interventions to empower societies.
“Support during this health crisis requires quick and decisive mobilisation. The need for businesses and corporates to come together and assist our communities remains imperative in order to make a meaningful impact. As a foundation with a long history of humanitarian service, we are proud to partner with Mastercard and Shoprite, and believe that this cause will contribute positively towards the well-being of citizens,” said Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, Founder of Gift of the Givers Foundation.
Mastercard has been spearheading the shift to contactless payments for several years in South Africa, and shoppers are increasingly recognizing contactless payments as a safer, cleaner, and faster way to pay. It plans to run the initiative until 15 August 2021, giving South Africans the opportunity to support humanitarian relief efforts when paying for their shopping through safe, cashless options.
“Our commitment to work together enables us to amplify the good we can do for those who need it most. By transacting safely and securely through quick and convenient contactless payment solutions, consumers are keeping their communities safe and contributing to others that may need support. At Mastercard, we believe in doing well by doing good, and as employers and enablers of an inclusive economy, we could not be prouder of our efforts to assist communities through this Priceless Cause,” said Kamini Redhi, Director of Marketing and Communications at Mastercard, South Africa.
