Line PayLINE Pay Corporation, operator of digital wallet and FinTech services on the LINE messaging app, announced today that it will offer LINE’s crypto asset LINK as a payment option at some online merchants for a trial period from March 16 to December 26, 2022 in Japan.

During the trial run, users will be able to use LINK at LINE Pay online merchants just like LINE Points, without any commission fees. By connecting LINK to LINE Pay as a payment solution, it aims to expand users’ payment options, increase convenience, and grow the real-life usages for LINK.

Based on its own blockchain network LINE Blockchain, LINE has been steadily expanding the practical usability of LINK. At LINE BITMAX, a crypto asset exchange in Japan operated by LVC, users can pay commission fees with LINK or with a LINE Pay account or bank account when trading crypto assets.

LINE Tech Plus, a subsidiary of LINE Corporation and operator of LINE’s global crypto asset and blockchain-related businesses, has also undertaken numerous initiatives aimed at leveraging LINK to promote the shift to a cashless society. These initiatives have included running marketing campaigns and conducting original research.

The company plans to consider adding other crypto assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum as payment options and strengthening partnerships with blockchain businesses. Under the vision of “Designed for Everyone”, LINE Blockchain will focus on connecting LINK with users’ everyday lives and contributing to the popularization of crypto assets.
