Laybuy research shows UK shoppers to implement tactics as high streets reopen

Consumers in the UK are planning on avoiding peak times and use contactless payments when returning to the high street, as lockdown measures are eased in the country, according to buy-now-pay-later provider Laybuy.
In a survey, 46 per cent of respondents said they are planning on avoiding peak shopping times to safeguard themselves against Covid-19, while 40 per cent said they plan on using contactless payments only for purchases.
In order to reveal how consumers are preparing themselves for the reopening of the high street, set for next Monday, 15 June, the research surveyed 2,000 individuals from across the UK.
Laybuy found that 38 per cent will be avoiding spending more time shopping than necessary, while 34 per cent said they will be taking hand sanitiser with them. Wearing a mask was only listed as a priority by 34 per cent of respondents.
Gary Rohloff, Co-Founder and MD of Laybuy, commented: “It’s hugely encouraging to see people preparing to return to the UK high street in such responsible ways. People need to feel comfortable and they already have good ideas on how they will go about it.
“We’re seeing retailers do everything they can to make their customers feel as reassured and at ease as possible, and we hope this research will provide some useful insights for them,” Rohloff said.
The research also unveiled a ‘sense of excitement and trepidation’ across the UK, as people adapt to the easing of quarantine restrictions. Laybuy saw that the vast majority of shoppers (42 per cent) are unsure how they feel about returning to the high street, while 38 per cent stated they were nervous and 20 per cent were excited about it.
In its most recent partnerships, Laybuy has implemented its interest-free solution, which divides the cost of purchases over six weekly payments, with The Hut Group and JD Sports.
