Vietnam Prosperity Joint-Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank) has appointed Ken Wong as its new Chief Data Officer and a member of the bank’s Board of Management, strengthening its focus on data, analytics and artificial intelligence capabilities.

In his new role, Wong will oversee VPBank’s enterprise-wide data strategy, AI capability development and broader efforts to embed data-driven decision-making across the organisation. His responsibilities will include data governance, architecture, advanced analytics, machine learning and fostering a stronger data-centric culture within the bank.

The appointment comes as financial institutions across Asia continue increasing investments in AI, automation and analytics to improve operational efficiency, customer experience and risk management.

Before joining Vietnam Prosperity Joint-Stock Commercial Bank, Wong spent nearly five years at Visa, where he served as Vice President and Head of Data Science for Asia Pacific. During his tenure, he led regional initiatives focused on analytics, data science and AI-driven solutions for the payments sector.

Prior to Visa, Wong spent more than a decade at OCBC Bank, holding senior positions including Head of AI Lab and Head of Customer Insights. His experience also includes leadership and consulting roles at SAS, IBM and International Customer Loyalty Programmes.

The move reflects VPBank’s broader push to accelerate digital transformation and strengthen its use of AI and analytics across banking operations. Banks across Southeast Asia are increasingly investing in enterprise data infrastructure as competition intensifies in digital banking, payments and customer engagement.

With Wong’s appointment, Vietnam Prosperity Joint-Stock Commercial Bank aims to expand its AI and machine learning capabilities while improving how data is used across business functions, customer services and strategic decision-making.
