Why it Matters: For Unlimit, the government-backed strategic enterprise status provides additional support for expanding its cross-border payments capabilities across Asia-Pacific. The development also reflects increasing demand for payment infrastructure that enables businesses to move money seamlessly across multiple markets and currencies.

Unlimit, a global financial infrastructure company, has been selected as a Strategic Enterprise by the Hong Kong Government’s Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES), as part of its plans to establish the city as its flagship Asia-Pacific hub for cross-border payments and multi-currency settlement.

The company has signed a partnership agreement with the Hong Kong government, strengthening its commitment to expanding operations in one of Asia’s leading financial centres.

Unlimit joins a select group of businesses participating in the OASES initiative, a government programme designed to attract international companies operating in strategically important sectors, including FinTech and artificial intelligence. The programme offers tailored support to help companies establish and grow their presence in Hong Kong.

The company plans to use Hong Kong as a gateway for broader expansion across the Asia-Pacific region, helping businesses enter new markets and facilitate cross-border transactions through its proprietary payment network, which spans more than 180 countries.

The announcement follows Unlimit’s acquisition of a Hong Kong Money Service Operator (MSO) licence in August 2026, further strengthening its regulatory footprint in the region.

Michele Fung, Head of APAC at Unlimit, said, “Being selected as a Strategic Enterprise by the Hong Kong Government is a strong recognition of Unlimit’s role in the region and our long-term ambitions. Hong Kong is one of the world’s most important financial centres, and we see it as a key base for the next phase of our growth.”

The move underscores Unlimit’s strategy of expanding its payments infrastructure across high-growth markets while supporting businesses seeking to manage international transactions and multi-currency settlements more efficiently.

As demand for cross-border payment services continues to rise across Asia-Pacific, Hong Kong’s position as a global financial hub and gateway to regional markets is expected to play a key role in supporting Unlimit’s future growth plans.
