Commercial Bank, Qatar, private bankDoha-based Commercial Bank has announced the launch of CB PAY, a digital product for merchants, in the Qatari market. The solution enables customers to pay for goods and services from their mobile devices. This is especially relevant in the COVID-19 pandemic situation where customers do not have to personally visit stores to make payments. CB PAY is a mobile application that brings business owners, retailers and merchants closer to their customers. It is said to make the process of settling payments easy.

Commercial Bank’s GCEO Joseph Abraham stated, “Commercial Bank is the leader for digital payments in Qatar and this new product is in response to the needs of merchants and their customers for non-face to face and non-cash alternatives for easy payments. It also supports the Government’s objectives to promote e-commerce and avoid handling cash. Our CB PAY for Merchants mobile app is a safe, secure and convenient way to make payments remotely and reduces the reliance on cash for better home shopping and delivery.”

Merchants can initiate, receive, and track payments using the mobile app through 2 different options. Available on CB PAY for Merchants, they can initiate and receive payments by simply entering the mobile number of the customer, along with the item description. The customer then receives an SMS or Push notification that leads them to open their CB Mobile application, validate the request and proceed with payment.

The second option by Commercial Bank enables payments using QR codes. Merchants generate a QR Code which will be scanned by the client using their CB Mobile App to complete the payment. This is particularly useful for services where customers pay for items on receipt of goods. Instead of cash on delivery, customers simply scan the QR code and settle the bill using their mobile devices.
