BancaStato has expanded its digital banking offering by launching regulated cryptocurrency trading through a partnership with digital asset banking group Sygnum and core banking provider Avaloq.

Fritz Jost, Chief B2B Officer at Sygnum, said: “BancaStato becoming the first bank on Avaloq’s SaaS environment to enable clients to buy, hold and sell crypto via API with Sygnum directly from within its e-banking platforms has marked a significant step in the maturity and scalability of regulated digital asset infrastructure.”

Through Sygnum’s API, BancaStato has connected digital asset services with its Avaloq Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) core banking environment. The implementation has enabled customers to buy, hold and sell Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and Solana (SOL) directly through their existing banking applications. Market orders have been supported by quantity or USD value, while digital assets have been safeguarded using Sygnum’s institutional-grade custody infrastructure.

Dr Curzio De Gottardi, Head of the Products and Services Division and Vice-Chairman of the Executive Board at BancaStato, said the partnership had enhanced the bank’s investment offering by combining traditional and digital assets within a unified banking experience.

The deployment has removed the need for a separate Order Management System (OMS), reducing operational complexity while supporting faster product enhancements and improved risk management capabilities. BancaStato has joined more than 25 banks and financial institutions already connected to Sygnum’s B2B platform, strengthening the adoption of regulated digital asset services across the banking sector.

The rollout has followed Sygnum Europe’s receipt of a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) licence under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, further supporting regulated digital asset services for European financial institutions.
