DOSH launches Google Pay for prepaid account customers
By Divya Shah
Why it matters: DOSH’s Google Pay launch demonstrates how digital wallets can support financial inclusion by bringing mainstream payment experiences to underserved consumers. For FinTechs, it highlights opportunities in prepaid accounts, embedded wallet services, and alternative banking models that deliver secure digital payments without requiring traditional credit or banking relationships.
DOSH, the prepaid Mastercard account developed by UK payments provider allpay, has launched Google Pay, enabling Android users to add their digital DOSH card to Google Wallet and make contactless payments using their smartphone or smartwatch.
The new capability lets customers pay in stores, online, and within apps wherever Google Pay or contactless payments are accepted. The launch forms part of DOSH’s broader mission to improve access to digital financial services for people who are unbanked, underbanked, or financially excluded.
The integration gives customers access to the same digital wallet experience used by mainstream banking customers while maintaining the simplicity and control of a prepaid account. Users can make payments without requiring a credit check or overdraft facility, spending only the funds available in their DOSH account.
The company said the service offers several benefits, including access to digital payments through Android devices, enhanced security through tokenisation and device authentication, and greater control over spending through features such as real-time notifications and card lock and unlock functionality within the MyDOSH app.
Tony Killeen, Founder and Entrepreneur of allpay, said, “Bringing Google Pay™ to DOSH helps open a modern payment experience while preserving the control and transparency that our customers value. It is an important step in making financial inclusion feel genuinely inclusive: practical, secure and designed for everyday life.”
DOSH is designed for consumers seeking an alternative to traditional banking and is available without credit checks or borrowing facilities. The service can be accessed through community partners, local authorities, social housing providers, and an open consumer waitlist.
Customers can add their DOSH card to Google Wallet directly through the MyDOSH app and use a network of up to 11,500 Post Office branches across the UK to deposit cash and check balances.
Developed by allpay Ltd, DOSH operates on a prepaid model that does not offer overdrafts or credit facilities, helping users manage spending within available funds. allpay is authorised and regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority as an electronic money issuer.
The launch highlights the growing role of digital wallets in financial inclusion strategies, enabling underserved consumers to access secure and convenient payment experiences without relying on traditional banking products.
