Billtrust brings AR intelligence to Claude and Microsoft Copilot
By Milan Rojan
Billtrust has launched its Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, enabling finance teams to access live accounts receivable (AR) intelligence directly within Microsoft Copilot and Claude using natural language queries.
Kevin Permenter, Research Director at IDC, said: “AR data is among the most predictive financial signals a company has. It tells you what’s moving, what’s at risk, and what’s about to break, but until now it has been effectively invisible to the AI tools where financial decisions get made. Billtrust’s MCP Server is a meaningful step toward closing that gap.”
The company said the new offering makes it the first AR platform to connect invoice-to-cash intelligence with AI assistants through MCP. The connector has provided read-only access to live Billtrust data, allowing finance teams to retrieve insights without logging into a separate platform or manually compiling reports.
The MCP Server has supported four core domains— invoicing, payments, cash application and AR analytics. Users have been able to ask questions about cash flow, invoice ageing, payment risk and overdue accounts, with responses generated from live Billtrust data combined with information from connected ERP, CRM and FP&A systems.
Lee Ann Schommer, Chief Product Officer at Billtrust, said: “Finance teams shouldn’t have to leave the AI workspace where they’re already making decisions. The Billtrust MCP Server puts AR data where it’s more accessible, so the answer is always one question away.”
Billtrust has said it has planned to introduce an embedded user interface within Microsoft Copilot and Claude later in 2026, alongside a library of pre-built prompts.
Billtrust has said customer data remains within each organisation’s environment, with AI tools receiving only structured responses rather than direct access to raw data. The platform has also included audit trails for all queries and integrated with existing identity providers to simplify deployment.
