BNP Paribas has renewed its partnership with Mistral AI for a further three years as the bank expands the use of generative AI across its operations.

The partnership builds on a collaboration that began in 2023 and was formalised through a groupwide agreement in 2024. BNP Paribas said the renewed arrangement extends beyond access to large language models and now includes software, AI solutions and co-development research projects.

“This renewed partnership with BNP Paribas marks a significant milestone in our shared journey to redefine what’s possible with generative AI in financial services. Together, we are not only deploying cutting-edge models but also co-developing bespoke solutions that address the unique challenges and opportunities of the banking sector,” said Marjorie Janiewicz, Chief Revenue Officer at Mistral AI.

The companies will focus on developing generative AI applications for areas including Corporate and Institutional Banking and Commercial, Personal Banking and Services. BNP Paribas said the collaboration will support AI deployment across knowledge management, financial analysis, document processing and operational workflows.

“ Our priority is to harness the power of generative AI to create reliable and efficient tools that our teams and clients can use in their day-to-day activities. This partnership with Mistral AI combines advanced cutting-edge models and the collective expertise of our teams, enabling us to design, deploy and scale operational use cases across BNP Paribas where they can drive meaningful impact and value,” said Sophie Heller, Chief Transformation Officer of CPBS, BNP Paribas

The bank is also working with Mistral AI on AI solutions for sensitive processes such as Know Your Customer compliance, where data security and regulatory requirements remain critical. The companies said the systems are designed to automate lower-value tasks while maintaining human oversight for risk management and decision-making.

Generative AI tools developed through the partnership are already being integrated into selected customer and employee applications. BNP Paribas said its Hello bank! virtual assistant has been upgraded using generative AI capabilities to improve customer query handling and routing.

The bank is also preparing to roll out an internal AI assistant in 2026 to support document generation, translation, summarisation and information analysis across the organisation.

The partnership reflects broader adoption of generative AI technologies within the banking sector as financial institutions continue exploring operational and customer service applications.
