WEX has partnered with Extend to enable embedded virtual card payments within SAP Concur solutions, expanding automation and control across corporate accounts payable workflows.

The integration allows WEX corporate card customers to connect their commercial accounts directly to Concur Invoice and generate virtual card payments without leaving the platform.

The collaboration positions virtual cards as a core component of AP digitisation. When invoices are received in Concur Invoice, the system can automatically generate a single-use virtual card linked to the customer’s WEX account. Each card includes predefined controls such as spend limits, validity periods, and invoice references, enabling secure, automated payment execution, authorisation, and reconciliation.

Andrew Jamison, CEO and co-founder of Extend, said, “WEX is one of the most respected names in corporate payments, and this partnership reflects the momentum we’re seeing across the industry. Extend has built the infrastructure that lets card issuers and payment platforms deploy new capabilities inside the software their customers already use, without ripping and replacing what’s already working.”

For businesses, the integration streamlines invoice settlement while improving visibility and reducing reliance on manual processes such as paper checks. It also supports faster supplier payments and enhanced cash flow management, while enabling firms to capture available card rebates. From a risk perspective, the use of tokenised, single-use credentials reduces exposure to fraud compared to traditional payment methods.

The move reflects a broader shift in FinTech toward embedding payments within enterprise software ecosystems. Extend provides the infrastructure layer connecting card networks, issuing banks, and business applications, allowing financial institutions like WEX Inc. to deploy new capabilities without complex integrations.

“WEX is committed to providing our customers with intelligence-led solutions that transform Accounts Payable from a back-office function into a strategic driver of working capital,” said Carlos Carriedo, Chief Operating Officer, Americas Payments & Mobility, WEX. “By partnering with Extend to embed virtual card payments inside Concur Invoice, we are delivering infrastructure that offers granular control over every transaction, all without disrupting how they already operate.”

The partnership underscores growing demand for integrated payment experiences within enterprise finance tools, as companies look to simplify operations while strengthening security and efficiency.
