Visa has launched Visa Pay, a next-generation mobile payments solution designed to expand access to secure, interoperable, and seamless money movement in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Developed as a mobile-first platform, Visa Pay enables consumers and businesses to pay, get paid, and move money across bank and mobile ecosystems, offering account-to-account transfers in both Congolese francs (CDF) and US dollars. The solution incorporates advanced risk and fraud prevention capabilities, while ensuring fast, near real-time transactions tailored to the needs of both banked and unbanked communities.

Visa Pay is being rolled out in close collaboration with leading financial institutions. At launch, the solution is available through Access Banque, FBN, Sofibanque, Solidaire Banque and UBA, with BGFI, Equity Bank, and TMB to follow. Customers can access Visa Pay as a standalone mobile application, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, or directly within their bank’s mobile platform via flexible integration options.

Alongside its digital payments capabilities, Visa Pay facilitates cash-in and cash-out services through partner bank branches and supports online payments via virtual cards. This comprehensive approach bridges the gap between traditional and digital finance, advancing the DRC’s payments infrastructure in line with global standards.

Sophie Kafuti, General Manager for Visa DRC, said, “We are excited to launch Visa Pay, an interoperable solution to scale digital payments in the country. The launch is part of our commitment to driving innovative solutions as a catalyst for greater financial inclusion, helping to provide broader access to the digital economy. Through Visa Pay, we aim to stimulate economic growth and to help establish the DRC as a regional leader in financial technology.”

The launch marks a strategic milestone in Visa’s mission to accelerate financial inclusion and foster economic development across Africa. By combining cutting-edge technology with trusted local partnerships, Visa is enabling individuals and businesses in the DRC to participate more fully in the digital economy — unlocking opportunities, improving resilience, and paving the way for sustainable growth.
