Vipps MobilePay, Cross Border Payments, Nordics, FinTech, DenmarkVipps MobilePay rolled out a new version of the MobilePay app to 4.5 million Danish users. The entire company is now on the same platform in Denmark, Finland, and Norway. The move paves the way for easy cross-border payments within the Nordic region in the near future.

Since the merger of Vipps and MobilePay in 2022, the company has been working to build one app and a technological platform that can be used throughout the Nordic region. The joint platform will give the company increased innovation power to deliver simplifying solutions faster to the entire Nordic region.

“If everything goes according to plan, you will be able to use Vipps MobilePay across Norway, Denmark, and Finland before the summer. Sweden will hopefully follow quite quickly after that,” said Rune Garborg, CEO of Vipps MobilePay.

On March 12th, around 4.5 million Danes were migrated to the new app and platform, uniting approximately 11.5 million users in Norway, Finland and Denmark.

“The payments market is dominated by global tech giants. That’s why building a unified Nordic solution is crucial to us. By joining forces, we’ve become a more powerful Nordic player, developing scalable solutions ready to tackle the fierce competition. Our main goal is to become available in all payment situations across the Nordics,” said Garborg.

In addition to seamless cross-border payment, the company aims to launch in-store tap-to-pay for iPhone and Android later this year. Now, the company is awaiting a final agreement between the EU Commission and Apple.

The new app was launched in Finland in January, and the launch in Denmark marks the culmination of efforts for the newly merged company.

“This past year has defined us as a company. We have set very ambitious goals, and it’s thanks to exceptional teamwork that we have achieved them. This milestone is a testament to the dedication, talent, and team spirit we have at Vipps MobilePay,” said Garborg.
