Tech Nation, the scale-up expert group supporting tech growth in the UK, has announced the inaugural Tech Nation International Growth Programme, selecting 30 companies from Australia, Singapore, Japan and South Korea.

Tech NationThe new programme has been commissioned as part of the Digital Trade Network, by the UK Government, to help innovative tech companies access trade and investment opportunities between the UK and Asia-Pacific and forge new partnerships in exciting new markets including Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Australia.

By connecting and supporting some of the UK’s leading tech scale-ups with international opportunities, the Tech Nation International Growth Programme hopes to help cement the UK’s position as a global tech powerhouse as it boosts exports and leverages the UK’s new global trade policy.

According to the expert group, Southeast Asia’s digital economy hit $ 100 billion in 2020 and is expected to grow to $ 300 billion by 2025 despite the challenges of COVID-19 – making it the ideal time for the UK to boost digital trade with the region.

In a statement, Tech Nation stated: “Tech Nation’s Unlocking Global Tech report found that the UK was the 5th greatest digital tech services exporter in the world in 2019. This position has been driven by a relatively high number of high growth exporting tech companies in the UK, many of which are yet to realise their full exporting potential.

“Thinking globally is vital for Tech Nation. 80 per cent of our latest Upscale cohort cited international expansion as their number one challenge, which is why the timing of these new Tech Nation International Growth Programmes is so pivotal.”

Tech Nation is working in collaboration with the UK Department for International Trade, as well as Plug and Play, Intralink and Asia Market Entry, to deliver these International Growth Programmes for Tech Nation Alumni in Asia-Pacific markets.
