Ontario based Tangerine, a direct bank that delivers simplified everyday banking to Canadians has announced that the bank is giving Chequing Clients a new, convenient and secure way to pay with Visa Debit later this fall.

The new Visa debit will be available in two card designs for clients to choose from. Tangerine Bank will leverage Visa‘s scale and global acceptance footprint and is said to be the first exclusive digital bank in Canada to offer Visa Debit.

Tangerine Chequing Clients, as an enhancement to the Tangerine Chequing Account, will be able to pay for online and international purchases where Visa Debit is accepted directly with money from their Chequing Account. This is expected to give Clients more control over their spending and added security features like Visa Zero Liability protection in addition to the features and security of their Tangerine Chequing Account.

“We take pride in listening to our Clients, and this is something they’ve told us they want, so we’re thrilled to bring it to them with some fun twists, like the option to choose between two Card designs. This new offering will allow our Clients to get more from debit – enhancing our already great Chequing Account with new features that bring them more value, added convenience and security when making online purchases or paying bills,” said Tangerine President & CEO Gillian Riley.

Visa Debit is accepted at more than 1.5 mn online merchants in Canada and at more than 55 mn international retailers. The partnership will enable Tangerine Chequing Clients in utilising Visa’s vast network and experience the protection of Visa’s multiple layers of security, reducing risk through continuous fraud monitoring and Visa Secure technology along with Tangerine’s existing robust security measures. Clients will also be able to use Visa Debit for in-app purchases and for popular rideshare and food delivery apps.

“We are very pleased to work with Tangerine Bank to offer their Clients more choice, flexibility and security through access to Visa’s leading debit capabilities. As one of Canada’s leading digital banks, Tangerine will bring Visa Debit to even more Canadians looking for new ways to shop online,” said Stacey Madge, President & Country Manager, Visa Canada.

Established since 1997, Tangerine is a leading direct bank offering flexible and accessible banking, innovative products and services, fair fees, and client service.
