Tandem bank hires new CFO, CRO from rivals Atom, Masthaven
By Gloria Methri
London-based challenger bank Tandem has made two new additions to its executive team, to bolster its C-suite and continue its growth. The company has named David McCarthy as its new chief financial officer (CFO) with Wahid Ali joining as chief risk officer (CRO).
Both new hires will join Tandem’s executive committee, with McCarthy will becoming a member of the bank’s Board.
McCarthy has made a switch from rival Atom Bank, where he has been CFO for the past eight years. He has also previously held senior finance roles at Britannia Building Society, Co-Op Bank, and Bank of Ireland.
Ali is joining Tandem from specialist lender Masthaven, having 20 years of risk management experience in the banking sector. He has held leadership positions at RBS, Barclays, Al Rayan Bank as well as the Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA).
The new appointments follow a recent announcement from Tandem that Susie Aliker will step down as CEO, with Alex Mollart will take over the top role. The bank also named Paul Pester as chairman in June this year.
Speaking of the new hires, Alex Mollart, Tandem Bank’s Deputy CEO, said, “I am thrilled to have both David and Wahid on board for the next stage of Tandem’s journey to becoming the UK’s greener, digital bank. There is no question David and Wahid bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and experience to the Tandem team as we continue to grow and become the go-to option for customers transitioning to a lower-carbon lifestyle.”
