Payfuture has integrated with Shopify to enable merchants to accept local payment methods in India, expanding access to the country’s rapidly growing ecommerce market through a single payment connection.

Manpreet Haer, CEO and Co-Founder of Payfuture, said: “This integration makes digital commerce more accessible, scalable, and locally optimised for global merchants in fast-growth markets. India is a vital market for ecommerce growth, and our infrastructure makes it easier for merchants to reach local buyers while maintaining compliance and operational efficiency.”

The integration has allowed Shopify merchants to offer popular Indian payment methods, including Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and NetBanking, through Payfuture’s payment application. The move has formed part of Payfuture’s strategy to strengthen local payment connectivity across major ecommerce platforms and support merchants expanding into high-growth markets.

Haer added: “Our role is to help global merchants operate like locals in markets that are often difficult to access. The Shopify integration allows us to bring that vision to life in one of the most important commerce ecosystems in the world.”

India has become one of the world’s fastest-growing ecommerce markets, with online retail expected to reach between $150 billion and $170 billion by 2027. Growing mobile-first adoption, increasing consumer preference for domestic payment methods and an evolving regulatory framework have made payment localisation a key factor for merchants seeking to scale in the country.

Through the integration, merchants can simplify the process of accepting local payments while reducing the complexity of managing multiple payment connections. The offering is designed to help international businesses improve checkout experiences and increase payment acceptance rates among Indian consumers.

Payfuture said it will continue investing in payment infrastructure and regional capabilities to help merchants expand into India and other high-growth markets, supporting local payment acceptance while maintaining compliance and operational efficiency.
