By Edil Corneille
National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) launched its newest service allowing new customers to open a new account without the requirement of visiting a bank branch. The bank has mentioned that it is the first in Kuwait to launch this kind of service. New NBK customers who have successfully completed the application through this service will be able to use their accounts instantly on NBK Mobile Banking and NBK online banking.
Customers can open an account through nbk.com by filling in the assigned account opening application. The civil ID information of the customer will be captured automatically upon the customer’s consent using the digital identity – ‘Kuwait Mobile ID’ by the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI).
The customer has the option to deposit money from a local bank with the K-Net payment option. Downloading the salary transfer letter is available after the completion of the application.
Mohammed Al-Othman, General Manager of Consumer Banking Group, National Bank of Kuwait, said: “We seek to give our existing and prospective customers a unique banking experience from the very first moment. Guaranteeing them access to digital banking services in the context of our understanding of their needs and work to meet them by providing quick and easy banking solutions.

Although digital identity is a very new service for Kuwait.. We believe that we have made a great contribution to the digitalization of our products and services by commissioning the service today and we are proud to have realized a major milestone.”
Al-Othman affirmed the aim of the Digital Transformation Department of NBK Consumer Banking Group to fully integrate the banking services provided at the branches and banking services that can be obtained through the bank’s digital channels.
The bank’s NBK Geo Alerts allows customers to receive offers instantly as they visit the participant merchant store at the Avenues. Other advanced features recently rolled out on NBK Mobile Banking include sending Quick Pay links through WhatsApp, new smartwatch function to show recent transactions of the account and credit cards, ‘Currency Exchange’ menu to buy and sell different currencies easily, and money transfer feature to NBK Capital International Brokerage Account, among others.
