Nasdaq launches Eqlipse Digital to help exchanges
By Divya Shah
Why it matters: Nasdaq’s Eqlipse Digital launch highlights the growing institutionalisation of tokenised assets. By enabling interoperability between traditional and blockchain-based markets, the platform could accelerate adoption of digital securities, tokenised collateral and new settlement models, creating opportunities for FinTechs operating across capital markets infrastructure.
Nasdaq introduced Nasdaq Eqlipse Digital, a tokenisation and digital asset connectivity platform designed to help financial market infrastructures and regulated market operators develop digital asset capabilities while maintaining institutional governance and operational control.
The new platform extends Nasdaq’s existing infrastructure expertise and is intended to support market operators as they adapt to the growing adoption of tokenised assets and blockchain-based financial services.
Eqlipse Digital was built around three key priorities: extending trusted market infrastructure, connecting traditional and tokenised market workflows, and providing a practical pathway for digital asset adoption.
The platform enables operators to expand established infrastructure into digital environments, supporting tokenised asset issuance, lifecycle management, servicing and connectivity without requiring a complete overhaul of existing systems.
This allows market infrastructures to evolve alongside changing market requirements while maintaining continuity with current operations.
An important feature of Eqlipse Digital is its ability to connect traditional financial market infrastructure with tokenised workflows. Nasdaq said future capital markets are likely to include both conventional and digital asset ecosystems, making interoperability increasingly important.
The platform is designed to connect central securities depository (CSD) and post-trade processes with tokenised issuance, settlement, servicing and transfer capabilities across both traditional and blockchain-based networks. This approach aims to help financial institutions avoid operating separate and fragmented technology environments.
Eqlipse Digital supports gradual implementation of digital asset capabilities. Market operators can begin with digital representations of existing assets before expanding into native digital issuance, new settlement models, collateral management and broader blockchain-based use cases as demand develops.
The platform supports connectivity across both private and public blockchain networks and includes integrations with digital wallets, custody providers and other supporting infrastructure. It also accommodates two key institutional tokenisation models: tokenised representations of traditional assets and the issuance of natively digital financial instruments.
Eqlipse Digital represents the latest addition to Nasdaq’s broader Eqlipse technology suite for market operators. The solution is designed to work alongside Nasdaq Eqlipse Trading, Clearing and CSD platforms while also supporting interoperability with non-Eqlipse environments.
Nasdaq said tokenisation is expected to impact multiple stages of the transaction lifecycle, including issuance, trading, clearing, settlement, custody, collateral management and asset servicing. By connecting these functions through a unified technology framework, the company aims to help market operators modernise infrastructure while preparing for increased digital asset adoption.
