Montonio, FinTech, Payment Solutions, Estonia, Europe, Open Banking, Payments, Totalizator SportowyMontonio, the European payment and e-commerce solutions provider, has appointed Johan Nord as its new Chief Executive Officer. Nord was hired in March 2024 as Montonio’s Chief Revenue Officer, bringing on board significant experience from his eight-year tenure in commercial leadership at the global open banking firm Trustly.

This leadership change comes at a time when the Montonio product suite and the value it delivers to e-commerce merchants are expanding rapidly. Nord’s experience at Trustly will be instrumental in driving Montonio’s expansion and enhancing its strategic partnerships, particularly across its core markets, the Baltics and Poland.

Markus Lember, the previous CEO and Co-Founder, will transition to a new role as Chief Strategy Officer. Commenting on the CEO appointment, Lember said, “With Johan at the helm, I am confident we will take Montonio to exciting new heights. I look forward to giving my full support to Johan in our mission, and to continuing to shape the company’s strategic direction in my new role.”

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Johan Nord CEO Montonio said, “I am honoured to take on the role at such a pivotal time for the company. We are entering an exciting phase where our focus will be on growth and delivering great value to primarily Baltic and Polish merchants with our combined offering of payments, shipping, and merchant software to achieve sustainable profitability. I look forward to working with our talented team to realise our ambitions.”

Since the announcement of its Series A funding in 2022, Montonio has partnered with over 6,000 online stores in Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Finland. The company has enhanced its product offerings by integrating Apple Pay, Google Pay, and BLIK, introducing automatic refunds for online stores, and forming strategic partnerships with Venipak for shipping within the Baltics, Inbank for BNPL services, and Coop Pank in Estonia to support their clients with payments and shipping needs.
