Montreal-based payments provider Nuvei has been selected by MediaMarktSaturn to support online marketplace payments across the retailer’s European operations, as the electronics group expands its digital commerce strategy.

MediaMarktSaturn, one of Europe’s largest consumer electronics retailers operating through its MediaMarkt and Saturn brands, is scaling its marketplace model to connect customers with a broader network of third-party sellers across multiple countries. The partnership will enable localized payment experiences for both buyers and merchants through a single, centralized platform.

Nuvei will provide access to a wide range of locally preferred payment methods across European markets, allowing the retailer to tailor checkout options to regional preferences. The offering includes global digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, as well as regional methods including Klarna, Wero, BLIK, and Bizum.

Phil Fayer, Chair and CEO of Nuvei, said large marketplaces increasingly view payments as a strategic growth lever rather than a back-end function. He noted that MediaMarktSaturn operates across a fragmented European payments landscape, where supporting local preferences alongside cross-border capabilities is critical to performance and conversion.

Christian Kollesch, Vice President and CEO of MediaMarktSaturn Marketplace, said the retailer requires infrastructure that combines local relevance with operational consistency across markets. He added that Nuvei’s international coverage and experience supporting complex marketplace environments will support the company’s ongoing digital expansion.

The move reflects a broader trend among large European retailers to invest in unified payment infrastructure as marketplace models scale. With consumer payment preferences varying significantly by country, the ability to combine centralized management with local acquiring and alternative payment methods has become a key competitive factor in cross-border eCommerce.

For Nuvei, the agreement strengthens its position in the enterprise retail and marketplace segment, as large merchants seek partners capable of managing multi-country complexity while optimizing conversion across Europe’s evolving payments ecosystem.
