Payment technology company Mastercard and Amazon.ae have announced a strategic partnership to offer customers exclusive access to value-added benefits and online savings. Customers who sign up for and use their Mastercard Platinum, World and World Elite Mastercard debit and credit cards issued by banks in the UAE, will receive a complimentary annual Amazon Prime membership.
“Mastercard’s collaboration with Amazon.ae will enable shoppers to engage with an e-commerce marketplace that offers added-value that will further strengthen our digital transformation journey in a world that is changing the way consumers interact with products, services and brands. Ease, immediacy, relevance and security are the new hallmarks of what consumers value as they seek more convenience as they make purchase decisions and Mastercard is proud to partner with Amazon to offer enhanced customer experiences,” Girish Nanda, Country Manager, UAE & Oman, Mastercard enunciated.
In a proprietary study completed in July this year, Mastercard consumer sentiment data revealed that 54 per cent of UAE consumers believe the preference of e-commerce over in-store shopping is a trend that is here to stay. It is imperative to create the right infrastructure and partner ecosystem speaking to today’s digitally savvy consumer.
Abdo Chlala, Director of Marketing and Prime, Amazon Middle East and North Africa elucidated, “We are constantly working on adding to and improving our Amazon.ae offering for customers in the UAE. We are pleased to be working with Mastercard to give their customers access to the wide range of shopping and entertainment benefits delivered through Prime memberships on Amazon.ae.”
In addition to the announcement, Mastercard has partnered with Amazon.ae for Amazon’s annual Prime Day in the UAE, a two-day shopping event. The two parties are offering UAE consumers who are Amazon Prime members, 20 per cent cashback in the form of an Amazon.ae gift card during Prime Day on October 13-14, when they pay with Mastercard
Mastercard has also mentioned that it is also committed to the security of consumers and merchants alike, through its advanced tokenisation technology. This ensures that as consumers go online, they also remain safe. Previously announced in June, globally, Amazon has started using Mastercard tokens for transactions to provide a seamless online shopping experience for their consumers.
