Klarna and Marqeta boost pay-later access across Europe
By Vriti Gothi

Marqeta, Inc. has partnered with Klarna to support the rollout of the Klarna Card across 15 new European markets. The expansion, underpinned by Visa’s Flexible Credential (VFC) technology, marks a significant step in redefining how consumers pay and manage their money in an increasingly digital economy.
Building on the successful U.S. launch of the Klarna Card in June 2025, this European rollout deepens Marqeta’s longstanding partnership with Klarna and reinforces both companies’ commitment to driving financial inclusion and flexibility through technology. The Klarna Card allows consumers to pay immediately or pay later using the same card, offering a seamless, transparent, and customer-centric payment experience.
Through a single integration with Marqeta’s scalable platform, Klarna is able to streamline operations, accelerate time-to-market, and efficiently manage its growth across multiple jurisdictions. The Klarna Card is now being introduced in the UK, Denmark, Germany, Norway, and Poland, joining its existing footprint in Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United States.
“At Klarna, we believe everyday spending should be simple, flexible, and fair,” said David Sandström, Chief Marketing Officer at Klarna. “Together with Marqeta and Visa, we’re redefining how people pay across Europe, combining the simplicity of debit with the power of pay-later options in one seamless experience. The Klarna Card gives consumers a smarter, more transparent way to manage their money, on their terms.”
The deployment of Visa’s Flexible Credential in Europe highlights the growing global relevance of modern card infrastructure in creating adaptable, secure, and data-driven payment ecosystems.
“We’re proud to enable Klarna’s European expansion with the deployment of Visa Flexible Credential in Europe,” said Rahul Shah, Chief Product and Engineering Officer at Marqeta. “This rollout across 15 new markets demonstrates the power of Marqeta’s platform to advance innovation at scale, and we’re eager to continue growing our partnerships with Klarna and Visa to meet evolving expectations for what’s possible in payments.”
