Ingenico and Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions have partnered to deliver an enterprise-grade mobile checkout solution aimed at UK retailers and grocers, as demand grows for flexible, in-store payment experiences beyond fixed checkout lanes.
The collaboration combines Ingenico’s Moby 5500 mobile payment device with Toshiba’s TCx® M7 handheld and TCx® M11 tablet. The integrated solution enables secure payment acceptance anywhere on the shop floor, allowing retailers to complete transactions during assisted selling, curbside pickup and other in-store interactions without redirecting customers to traditional tills.
The partnership reflects a broader shift in retail technology, as grocers and large-format retailers look to reduce checkout friction, manage peak-time congestion and improve staff productivity. Mobile point-of-sale systems are increasingly viewed as a strategic component of store modernisation, particularly in high-volume environments where queue management and speed of service directly affect customer satisfaction.
The combined solution supports Europay, MasterCard and Visa (EMV) transactions, as well as contactless and digital wallet payments. It is designed to meet the performance, reliability and security requirements of enterprise retailers, while enabling store layouts and workflows to be adjusted without significant changes to existing infrastructure.
By enabling payments to be accepted closer to the point of customer interaction, the solution allows retailers to redeploy staff more flexibly and reduce waiting times during busy trading periods. It also supports use cases such as endless aisle and assisted selling, where transactions can be completed immediately once a purchase decision is made.
Robert Parsons, VP of Product Portfolio at Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions, said the collaboration aligns with retailers’ efforts to make in-store experiences more responsive and efficient. “By bringing together powerful mobile hardware with intelligent software, our mobile checkout and payment solutions give associates the freedom to meet shoppers wherever they are. Enterprise-mobile solutions eliminate friction and long lines while creating a more personal, efficient experience.”
While the initial focus is on the UK market, the companies said the solution is intended for global deployment, highlighting how established payment and retail technology providers are aligning to address evolving in-store commerce requirements.
