GetYourGuide selects Checkout.com for seamless travel payments
By Gloria Methri
Checkout.com, a global digital payments company, has announced its partnership with GetYourGuide, the online travel experience platform.
GetYourGuide is renowned for connecting travellers with local providers to book tours, attractions, and activities, listing over 150,000 experiences worldwide on their digital platform. Beyond serving travellers, it empowers locals to build their businesses on the platform, creating a global digital ecosystem of community-driven experiences.
The company chose Checkout.com as its partner to support its global growth as the trend for booking travel experiences online continues to soar. Since 2019, using Online Travel Agencies (OTAs), such as GetYourGuide, to book travel experiences has grown by 200%, making it the fastest-growing vertical for travel.
The collaboration ensures that GetYourGuide’s customers enjoy smooth, secure payment experiences across multiple geographies. With the support of Checkout.com, GetYourGuide customers can book, pay for, and secure tours and experiences for their travels online in their language and in the currency of their choice.
Arjun Muralidharan, Director of Product at GetYourGuide, said, “Checkout.com’s robust acquiring capabilities, advanced technology, and localised payment options empower us to provide an exceptional booking experience. Their reputation for delivering best-in-class performance for their merchants’ payments made them an ideal choice for us. We have already partnered with them in the UK and Germany and look forward to working together in more of our key strategic markets, such as Japan and the US.”
Checkout.com processes payments in over 55 countries worldwide, supporting over 145 currencies. Its continued global expansion was marked recently by the opening of a new office in Tokyo alongside direct acquiring capabilities in Japan.
For GetYourGuide, this partnership means a better-performing payments system that keeps their operations running smoothly and supports their growth globally. By leveraging Checkout.com’s modular payments infrastructure, GetYourGuide gains access to:
- High-performance payments across borders: A simplified and efficient payment process ensures it’s a dream for travellers from around the world to book their dream experiences.
- Localised payment options: Checkout.com’s global reach supports region-specific payment methods, aligning with GetYourGuide’s focus on customer-centricity.
- Data-driven insights: Real-time analytics and reporting allow GetYourGuide to make informed decisions and continually enhance its payment setup.
This partnership ensures GetYourGuide can cater to the rising demand for unique experiences backed by a digital-first payment system that’s as intuitive and dynamic as its online platform. This is especially important for younger travellers, who often prefer digital booking options and may be cash-constrained. Notably, 54% of those booking cultural, historic, and natural monument experiences last year were either Gen Z or Millennials. With features like flexible payment methods and options to reserve now and pay later, Checkout.com helps GetYourGuide to meet the needs of this growing segment of digital-native adventurers.
Antoine Nougué, Chief Revenue Officer at Checkout.com, said, “At Checkout, we are firm believers that we are living in an increasingly digital-first world, and our partnership with GetYourGuide is an excellent example of how high-performing digital payments can shape real-world adventures. We are proud to partner with them on this journey, delivering the payment infrastructure needed to support their mission. Together, we’re enabling travellers worldwide to book life-enriching adventures online with ease.”
