FIS selected by First Commerce Bank to modernise core banking
By Milan Rojan
First Commerce Bank has selected FIS to provide its HORIZON core banking platform as the New Jersey-based community bank seeks to modernise its technology infrastructure and strengthen its readiness for AI-driven banking.
The agreement has given First Commerce Bank access to the wider FIS HORIZON ecosystem, an API-enabled platform designed to simplify integrations with FinTech providers and support long-term digital transformation. The implementation has positioned the bank to adopt emerging AI capabilities, including standardised data services and agentic banking tools, while continuing to serve retail and business customers.
Donald Mindiak, President and Chief Executive Officer of First Commerce Bank, said: “Our customers expect the same digital capabilities offered by the nation’s largest banks, delivered with the personal service of a community institution. FIS HORIZON gives us the flexibility to modernise our core while preparing for the next generation of banking, including AI-powered experiences and expanded FinTech connectivity.”
FIS said the platform has been designed to help financial institutions modernise core banking operations without disrupting existing services. By providing greater integration flexibility and support for third-party technologies, the platform has enabled banks to respond more quickly to changing customer expectations and evolving market demands.
The move has reflected growing investment among regional and community banks in modern core banking systems as they compete with larger institutions and digital-first challengers. First Commerce Bank said the technology upgrade would support future innovation while maintaining operational resilience.
Jim Johnson, Co-President, Banking Solutions at FIS, said: “Community banks are increasingly looking for technology that helps them compete through innovation while preserving the trusted relationships they have built with customers. By selecting FIS HORIZON, First Commerce Bank has established a modern, AI-ready foundation that will support future growth, greater connectivity and continued innovation.”
The deployment has formed part of First Commerce Bank’s broader strategy to modernise its banking infrastructure and expand digital capabilities as customer expectations continue to evolve.
