dLocal has integrated Bre-B, Colombia’s new national real-time payments platform developed by Banco de la República. This marks a significant milestone in the country’s financial modernisation journey, enabling seamless, always-on digital payments that connect banks, wallets and consumers across the nation. Through this launch, dLocal strengthens its position as a leading facilitator of digital commerce in emerging markets and reaffirms its commitment to driving financial inclusion through technology.

Bre-B represents a transformative step in Colombia’s payment infrastructure. Designed as a 24/7 interoperable rail, it allows individuals and businesses to transfer funds instantly using simple digital identifiers such as mobile numbers, national IDs or email addresses, instead of lengthy account details. The platform initially supports peer-to-peer and person-to-merchant transactions, laying the foundation for a fully connected, cash-light economy. Under the central bank’s mandate, all Colombian banks and e-wallet providers will participate, ensuring national interoperability and expanding access to digital payment options for millions of users.

dLocal’s integration with Bre-B reflects its technical agility and global expertise in enabling cross-border and local payment solutions. Through its single API, merchants can now access Bre-B payments directly, without requiring customers to download additional applications. The system intelligently routes transactions through the most efficient rails while maintaining full compliance with Colombian regulations. Advanced security measures, including real-time fraud detection, AML controls and transparent reconciliation processes, ensure a safe and reliable payment experience. This architecture enables global merchants and local platforms alike to seamlessly adopt Bre-B and offer customers a native, frictionless digital payment option.

The launch of Bre-B is expected to deliver tangible benefits to consumers and businesses alike. Payments can now be made instantly, at any time, across all financial institutions, reducing delays and improving cash flow. For users, the simplicity of alias-based payments eliminates the need for traditional account details, improving convenience and confidence in digital transactions. The system will remain free to use for individuals until 2028, an incentive designed to accelerate adoption and expand participation in the formal financial ecosystem. By enabling interoperability across banks and wallets, Bre-B is set to reduce fragmentation in the payments landscape and advance Colombia’s broader financial inclusion agenda.
