Cover Genius, an InsurTech firm, has partnered with Tongcheng Travel to offer embedded travel insurance to international customers, with initial launches in Malaysia and the Philippines.

The rollout forms part of Tongcheng Travel’s international expansion strategy, enabling users in both markets to access travel protection directly within the booking process. The integration is designed to enhance the overall customer experience as the company grows beyond its domestic market in China.

Barney Pierce, Chief Business Officer at Cover Genius, said, “Rolling out insurance in multiple international markets is a significant step for any travel platform, particularly during a period of rapid expansion. We’re supporting Tongcheng Travel to launch locally relevant protection products across multiple countries, backed by global licensing, compliance and claims expertise. That ability to scale quickly in a crowded landscape is exactly what travel brands and airlines need as they grow internationally. We work closely with our partners to embed our digital distribution platform XCover as a flexible, data-driven alternative to traditional insurers whose speed to market is often hindered by legacy tech and localized silos.”

Cover Genius provides the service through a single API and unified commercial framework, allowing Tongcheng Travel to manage and scale insurance offerings across multiple markets. The approach removes the need to work with multiple insurers and navigate varying regulatory environments, simplifying expansion.

The companies said the model also creates a foundation for introducing additional protection products and entering new markets over time.

The partnership reflects broader growth in embedded insurance across the travel sector, where companies are increasingly adopting technology-led solutions to improve speed to market and operational flexibility.

Cover Genius said the collaboration strengthens its presence across Asia-Pacific, where demand for scalable, cross-border protection services continues to increase.
