Coinbase welcomes Marc Andreessen and Gokul Rajaram to Boardroom

California based Coinbase, provider of a digital currency wallet and platform has announced the addition of 2 new industry leaders to its Boardroom: Marc Andreessen, co-founder, and operating partner at Andreessen Horowitz, a leading venture capital firms assumes as a Board Observer, and Gokul Rajaram, an executive at DoorDash, has assumes as a Board Director at the designation of the DFJ Growth Fund and Series C shareholders. 

Marc Andreessen is an innovator and creator and was an early believer in the potential of crypto. He is one of the few to pioneer a software category used by billions of people and to establish multiple billion-dollar companies. Marc co-created the Mosaic internet browser and co-founded Netscape, which later sold to AOL for $4.2 bn. He also co-founded Loudcloud, which as Opsware, sold to Hewlett-Packard (HP) for $1.6 bn. He later served on the board of HP from 2008 to 2018. In 2009, with co-founder Ben Horowitz, Marc founded Andreessen Horowitz. Marc holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Gokul Rajaram has served on the executive team at DoorDash since November 2019, after Doordash acquired Square’s food delivery business, Caviar. Prior to DoorDash, from 2013 to 2019 he worked as the Product Engineering Lead at Square, where he led several product development teams and served on Square’s executive team. Prior to Square, from 2010 to 2013 he served as Product Director of Ads at Facebook, where he helped the company transition its advertising business to become mobile-first. Earlier in his career, from 2003 to 2007, Gokul served as a Product Management Director for Google AdSense, where he helped launch the product and grow it into a substantial portion of Google’s business. Since 2020, Gokul has served as a Director of Pinterest (PINS),The Trade Desk (TTD) since May 2018, and Course Hero since June 2008.

The firm is looking to its Board members and Observers to draw from their areas of expertise to counsel the company on everything from product development to world-class governance practices.

With Marc and Gokul joining our Boardroom, two longtime Board contributors will be transitioning out. Chris Dixon has contributed to Board and Executive Leadership meetings in an Observer capacity for seven years. Additionally, Barry Schuler will step off as the Series C Director, but we will still benefit from Barry’s continuing contributions as a Board Observer.

Founded in 2012, Coinbase’s mission is to create an open financial system for the world. It is a digital currency wallet and platform where merchants and consumers can transact new digital currencies like bitcoin, ethereum, and litecoin. Recently, BitPay enhanced services with Coinbase for an instant, no fee blockchain payments.
