Cashfree Payments has launched Apple Pay support for international cards, enhancing its international payment gateway (IPG) and enabling Indian merchants to offer Apple Pay as a native checkout option for customers in high-value global markets, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, the UAE, and most of Europe.

The move marks a significant milestone in Cashfree Payments’ mission to power seamless global commerce for Indian businesses. By embedding Apple Pay into its cross-border payments infrastructure, the company is reducing friction at checkout, addressing conversion drop-offs, and creating new opportunities for merchants to capture growing international demand. The launch is especially timely ahead of the festive season, when the appetite for Indian cultural, artisanal, and heritage products among international buyers and the diaspora reaches its peak.

“At Cashfree Payments, we believe the future of cross-border commerce is about creating better and more intuitive payment experiences. We’ve consistently built solutions that help Indian businesses scale with confidence, and now with Apple Pay’s integration, we are thrilled to redefine how global consumers connect with Indian merchants. By offering a payment flow that feels native to international buyers, we’re bringing them even closer to Indian merchants, while improving trust, reducing drop-offs, and making global commerce truly seamless. Apple Pay brings together ease, security, and conversion performance, and we’re proud to be one of the first in India to deliver that to global-facing merchants,” said Nitin Pulyani, Head of Product at Cashfree Payments.

The strategic importance of this development is underscored by shifting consumer behaviour. According to the Worldpay Global Payments Report 2024, cards accounted for 53% of eCommerce transaction value in North America and 43% in Europe. While card usage remains a dominant payment method in these regions, Indian merchants have historically lacked the infrastructure to offer secure, wallet-based card flows. This gap has often forced international customers into manual card entry, resulting in friction, higher transaction drop-offs, and missed revenue opportunities.

With Apple Pay now integrated, Cashfree Payments’ merchants can offer a fast, secure, and device-native checkout experience, eliminating the need for manual card entry. The solution leverages biometric authentication and tokenised card data to ensure transactions are initiated only by verified device owners, providing both convenience and enhanced fraud prevention. Early estimates suggest that this could reduce drop-offs by up to 75% for exporters in sectors such as travel and tourism, SaaS, and global eCommerce industries, where high-value card transactions are critical to growth.
