European challenger bank bunq today announced the launch of its first Double Donation Day, which will be taking place on the 5th of September. The development is expected to help to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on charitable organisations. bunq stated that its in-app charity feature, Common Goals, can allow users to raise money for their chosen charity. The company said that it will instantly double the total amount raised for the most popular charity, at the end of the Double Donation Day.
Ali Niknam, CEO and founder of bunq, said, “Feedback from our users shows they want to have a positive impact on the world in a fun and easy way, so we’re very excited to support them by doubling their in-app donations to their most popular charity!”
The Double Donation Day coincides with the International Day of Charity as declared by the United Nations in 2012, which aims to raise awareness on the importance of charities.
bunq stated in its press release, “As a result of the coronavirus crisis, raising funds has become a major challenge for charitable organisations worldwide. Non-profit organisations face the brunt of the current economic downturn and are expected to miss millions in donations. Smaller charities, in particular, are hit hard, at a time when their positive impact is needed more than ever.”
Recently, the company announced that it would be offering mortgages as a part of its new partnership with a third party broker. This is expected to enable bunq’s users to remove boundaries associated with obtaining a mortgage, thus encouraging people to become homeowners.
