Why it matters: The launch highlights the growing convergence of traditional finance and digital assets through tokenisation. For FinTechs, it demonstrates how real-world assets are evolving beyond simple tokenised representations into programmable financial instruments that can be traded, pledged as collateral, lent or used in yield products.

Bitget has launched rToken Stock Transfer, a new feature that enables users to transfer eligible US-listed stocks and ETFs from traditional broking accounts into the platform as tokenised stocks, known as rTokens.

The launch allows investors to move more than 3,000 equities and ETFs into Bitget through a streamlined two-step process, giving them access to additional ways to manage and utilise their existing investments within the platform’s digital asset ecosystem.

The initiative marks another step in Bitget’s broader strategy to bridge traditional finance and digital assets through real-world asset (RWA) tokenisation. The company said the offering is designed to improve how tokenised assets are transferred, traded and deployed across different financial products while enhancing liquidity and capital efficiency.

The transfer process begins with users initiating a Free of Payment (FOP) transfer from an external broking account to Bitget’s designated Alpaca omnibus account. Once the shares are received, Bitget’s In-Kind Tokenisation Network (ITN) automatically converts them into corresponding rTokens and credits them to the user’s spot account.

Bitget said transfers into the platform are free of charge and are typically completed within approximately ten business days. Outbound transfers are subject to fees.

The launch builds on the growth of Bitget’s rToken ecosystem through its real-world asset issuance platform, Reality. According to the company, rToken assets under management reached approximately $114 million, while cumulative transactions surpassed two million.

With the new capability, investors can bring a wider range of existing equity holdings onto the platform, where eligible rTokens can be used for spot trading, borrowing and lending, margin-related activities and yield-generating products, subject to applicable terms and asset eligibility requirements.

Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, said tokenisation has already improved access to traditional assets, but the next stage is increasing their utility and flexibility. Chen noted that rToken Stock Transfer enables investors to move existing stock holdings into Bitget, where those assets may eventually be used for a broader range of purposes, including as collateral for trading activities.

The company said the development supports its vision of creating a more connected financial ecosystem in which traditional and digital assets can move more freely and be used more efficiently.
