Portugal-based Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) today announced a partnership with engagement banking technology provider Backbase. Backbase stated that the collaboration will enable CGD to create new digital banking channels across all its business lines and achieve a seamless customer experience, starting with SME customers. CGD will be rolling out a range of new initiatives, including developing a fully digital SME onboarding solution.

Rui Negrões Soares, Head of Digital at Caixa Geral de Depósitos, commented, “As our customers’ needs continue to shift, the ability to innovate quickly and pivot towards new digital releases, channels and features is core to our strategy. Our technology journey will allow us to provide all our customers with competitive advantages, guaranteeing the excellent service and efficiency they expect. By creating a seamless, unified digital banking platform, we’re not only reducing unnecessary costs, but we’re also able to dedicate more focus toward providing the most valuable, engaging end-to-end experience for our customers – something that is an essential part of our leadership in the market.”

According to Backbase, CGD will be able to improve its customer experience across all touch points. CGD will be able to significantly decrease the time to market for launching new digital banking solutions, while also reducing customer acquisition costs and benefiting from more reliable and robust technology.

Matthijs Eijpe, Regional Vice President for EMEA at Backbase, added, “We’re delighted to be able to help Caixa Geral de Depósitos create a scalable and flexible technology infrastructure that will allow them to better engage with their customers across the entire business, including building out their SME onboarding solution as a first step. By providing a holistic platform that connects all business lines and reduces spend, we’re empowering Caixa Geral de Depósitos’ to innovate more freely and effectively.”
