The launch is part of the company’s growth plans and its interest in making it easier for its customers – especially those without a bank account – to access the digital economy and the possibility of making online transactions.

“At Visa we work with fintechs around the world to transform the digital payments industry and offer more and more people and merchants the benefits of digitalization,” said Gilberto Chaparro, General Manager for Visa Peru. “We celebrate our collaborative work with AstroPay, with whom we developed a solution that will allow more Peruvians to have access to fast, secure and convenient payments. Likewise, the creation and implementation of innovative payment solutions, hand in hand with fintech, allows us to contribute to the development of a more inclusive economy in the country.”

AstroPay provides this card issued by Tebca Peru, both for its current and new users, offering them a very simple, secure, and comfortable experience of entering the financial system. They will be able to activate and use the prepaid card instantly, without any cost, and pay at any online store that accepts Visa, in addition to having attractive benefits such as receiving cashback.

Peru is a key market for AstroPay due to the rapid growth and development of its payments industry and has the wide acceptance of the Visa brand throughout the country. The prepaid card will allow users to buy anywhere that accepts VISA in the world, being able to pay in both US dollars and Peruvian soles.

AstroPay plans to expand its prepaid card to several territories, having previously launched this product in the UK, now Peru – its next goal will be to expand across the rest of Latin America, targeting Brazil, Mexico and Argentina.

“It is a great time for AstroPay to strengthen its position as a key player in Peru’s growing payments industry. Building on our existing operations in the country, we are not only offering our current and new users a simpler experience with their finances, but also creating a frictionless experience for unbanked customers looking to enter the financial system,” said Guillermo Dotta, CTO and Chief Product Officer of AstroPay. “This launch is part of our ongoing effort to deliver simple, safe and convenient solutions, tailored to meet the needs of our loyal customers throughout Latin America.”
