By Divya Shah
Why it matters: The partnership expands digital payment acceptance, strengthens merchant payment infrastructure, and supports greater financial inclusion by providing consumers and businesses with more payment choices.
American Express and TBC Georgia have entered into an agreement that will allow TBC to accept American Express Card payments at merchant locations and through online channels across Georgia.
The partnership is aimed at expanding American Express Card acceptance in the country while supporting TBC Georgia’s efforts to provide simple, convenient and secure payment options for both consumers and businesses.
Through the agreement, local and international American Express Card Members will be able to use their cards at a broader network of merchants, both in-store and online. The expanded acceptance network is expected to offer greater payment flexibility for customers while helping businesses attract new customers and increase sales opportunities.
Sandro Rtveladze, Retail Business Director at TBC Georgia said, “This collaboration reflects our commitment to offering merchants a simple, convenient and secure payment experience and giving customers greater payment choice. The partnership opens new opportunities for merchants to serve a wider range of customers, including international visitors, while also supporting the development of the payments ecosystem in Georgia.”
The initiative is also expected to benefit merchants by enabling them to serve more local and international Card Members. By accepting American Express payments, businesses can reach a wider customer base and strengthen their growth prospects.
Sonia Dewan, Vice President and General Manager, Global Network Services EMEA, American Express said, “Our collaboration with TBC aims to further grow American Express Card acceptance in Georgia and marks another important step in providing our Card Members with more payment choice and creating new opportunities for merchants across the country.”
American Express noted that its cards are now accepted at more than 190 million merchant locations worldwide, with the network expanding by approximately 20 million locations during the year.
The partnership marks another step in the ongoing development of Georgia’s digital payments ecosystem, increasing payment acceptance options for merchants while improving convenience and flexibility for consumers.
