Alchemy brings Mastercard Agent Pay to enable AI-powered purchases
By Divya Shah
Alchemy, an AI developer and infrastructure platform for the onchain economy, has integrated Mastercard Agent Pay into its AgentCard platform, enabling developers to build AI agents capable of securely making purchases on behalf of users.
The integration combined Alchemy’s agent infrastructure with Mastercard’s payments network, allowing AI agents to move beyond providing recommendations and complete real-world transactions while operating within user-authorised spending parameters.
Through AgentCard, developers can equip AI agents with key capabilities required to transact online, including a dedicated email address, phone number, stablecoin wallet and one-time-use Mastercard payment credentials. The setup can be completed through a single command-line interface, allowing agents to be deployed in minutes.
Nikil Viswanathan, Co-founder and CEO of Alchemy, said trusted payment infrastructure, clear user authorisation and spending controls would be critical to helping AI agents transition from assistants to tools capable of conducting everyday commerce.
The platform supports a range of use cases, including food ordering, travel bookings and subscription management. By combining stablecoin wallets with tokenised card credentials, AgentCard enables AI agents to access both emerging digital asset payment networks and traditional card-based commerce infrastructure.
A key component of the integration is Mastercard’s one-time-use tokenised payment credentials, which allow AI agents to transact with online merchants while remaining connected to users’ existing Mastercard accounts.
This approach preserves cardholder benefits such as rewards programmes, credit lines and existing payment protections without requiring new payment accounts.
The solution also incorporates configurable controls that enable users and card issuers to define spending limits, approved merchant categories and transaction permissions. These safeguards ensure AI agents can operate only within pre-approved boundaries.
AgentCard was also designed to support Mastercard’s Verifiable Intent framework, which provides evidence that an AI agent acted according to a user’s authorised instructions. The framework aims to improve transparency for consumers, merchants and issuers by demonstrating what actions were approved, under which conditions and by whom.
Sherri Haymond, Executive Vice President of Digital Commercialisation at Mastercard, said trusted safeguards and consumer controls were essential to moving agentic commerce from experimentation toward mainstream adoption.
Developers can integrate AgentCard’s identity, wallet and payment capabilities directly into custom-built applications, while consumers can access pre-configured experiences through AgentCard’s platform. Businesses can either deploy ready-made solutions or embed the technology into their existing products and workflows.
