ABN AMRO appoints Dorothée Appel as the new CIO for RCBF

ABN AMRO recently announced that it has appointed Dorothée Appel as the new Chief Information Officer for Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, and Functions (RCBF) at ABN AMRO’s Innovation & Technology department. The new CIO will assume her position from 1st of October, 2020 onward and will be directly reporting to Christian Bornfeld, the CI&TO of ABN AMRO, and member of the Executive Committee.
Christian Bornfeld commented on the appointment, “As well as heading the IT function of Zurich Gruppe Deutschland since 2018, Dorothée has also been responsible for driving its transition to an agile IT target operating model as a pillar of its digitalisation strategy. Given that we are also fully engaged in digital transformation within ABN AMRO, I am delighted that Dorothée will be bringing this experience to the role.”
Appel will be responsible for developing applications for the business lines of Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, and Functions. She will focus on the improvement of agility and predictability of the delivery of high-quality software.
Recently, Appel was the CIO and Chief Digital Officer at the Swiss insurance company Zurich Gruppe Deutschland. She has around 30 years of experience in various IT functions. She has also worked at the ING Bank N.V. as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) IT.
Recently, ABN AMRO said that it would be discontinuing its online mortgage label, Moneyou’s activities in the Netherland, and Germany except for the mortgage activities. Moneyou started in 2001 as ABN AMRO’s online mortgage label, followed by online savings accounts in 2008. At the moment, Moneyou has a total of around 500,000 clients in the Netherlands and Germany, mostly with savings accounts and mortgage loans.
